Session Length
The length of the session will be based on the appointment reserved. A typical Reiki session is done in a 60-minute time period. Bodywork starts at 90-minutes and if you reserve the “Limitless” treatment has the potential of lasting up to 4-hours.
Positioning
Depending on the session and modalities requested the session may take place on a massage table or a Thai mat. Based on the requests and needs of the client positioning may include laying face up (supine) or face down (prone); as well as a side-laying option. Bolsters for ankles and knees are available if needed.
A Reiki session is done fully clothed and uses both the prone and supine positioning.
What Parts of my Body will be Worked on?
A typical full-body session will include work on your back, hips, arms, legs, hands, feet, head, neck, upper chest, and shoulders. Abdominal massage is also an option if desired.
Experience
In-person sessions will start with a short intake discussion. Once finished the client will prepare by either laying fully clothed on the massage table or mat, or with the practitioner leaving the room so the client can undress and lay between the sheets on the massage table.
Once finished the practitioner will re-enter the room and start the session based on what was previously agreed upon.
For a Reiki session, the session can be done in-person or as a “Distance Reiki” session. Distance Reiki starts with a short phone or zoom discussion about goals and intentions. Once the call is finished the client will settle into a comfortable position, preferably in a quiet space without distractions. The session will take place at the agreed upon time. Often the client will feel a warm, gentle sense of peace and relaxation. Common feelings include warmth and tingling in the body. The body and mind relax and many clients fall asleep.
*For this reason it is good to set a gentle alarm for ~5 minutes after the agreed upon ending time.
Some people don’t feel anything at all. The sensations or lack of are not a sign of Reiki working or not; they are just the way your body currently interacts with the energy.
At the end of the session it is recommended the client journals and reflects on anything that came up during the treatment. If desired, another zoom or phone call can be held to discuss the session.
One vs Many
One session can be very powerful and it is a great start. Like many practices, the more you receive the more you notice; consistency is important to see results. Continued sessions allow for continued progress in your journey and a higher awareness and connection of mind, body, and spirit. If working through acute or chronic issues it is best to schedule multiple visits.
For some people it may take a few sessions to start to feel the benefits.
When working through a new or acute injury receiving regular bodywork can decrease the recovery period.
After Treatment
After the session it is recommended to hydrate your body. It can also be beneficial to journal or record your experience in some way.
If you are interested in learning ways to improve your condition outside of our sessions please ask. There are many stretches and exercises that benefit in recovery and general movement health.
Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That’s why it’s imperative that before you begin your session the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.
