Hawaiian Mana Lomi

Mana Lomi is a Hawaiian bodywork style that was designed by Maka’ala Yates.

Imagine the ocean. It is deep and wide, moving slowly back and forth with the tides. Lapping at the shore it is now shallow, playfully pulling at the sand of the beach. In a storm the waves crash quickly; fierce and strong. The ocean is patient and healing; it is also stern and harsh.
Mana Lomi is like this. It reminds me of the ocean in it’s tide-like flow, it’s hard and soft. Slow and patient compression is often followed by a quick and light soothing touch.

The Mana Lomi® technique is based on Hawaiian concepts of working with the “mana”, or “life energy”, of the body, mind, and soul of an individual.
Dr. Maka’ala Yates D.C. developed Mana Lomi after years of studying and practicing Hawaiian healing concepts with his Hawaiian teachers.

According to the voices of Na Kupuna (Hawaiian Elders – Wisdom Keepers) Mana Lomi could be translated as the ”Life-force of Lomi.” Lomi, or Lomilomi, describes a concept that involves the movement of energy.
With the right understanding and training, the practitioner can communicate through the soft tissues of the body, deep into the bones of the individual.
